To celebrate its 30th anniversary, SEIZAN Gallery’s parent company, Art Japan, Co., Ltd., held a call for submissions from the general public. 353 entrants participated, representing a wide range of age groups and distinctive styles, and eight individual works were honored with awards. This exhibition will feature both the award winners and a select group of others who just missed out, totaling 15 pieces in all. We hope you will come and witness the charm and incredible potential of these emerging artists for yourself.

| During our first ever open call for artworks, held to celebrate our 30th anniversary, we encountered a diverse range of perspectives and expressive styles. The artworks selected all employed a unique sensitivity and robust technique to evoke memories and time, people and places. The grand prize winner Makoto Nitahara, as well as other honorees Yasushi Yamauchi and Nayuko Matsuda, all take radically different approaches while still retaining the power to reach deep into the hearts of others. We hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity for visitors to encounter new talent and for the artists of the next generation to take flight. At the same time, it also fills us with high expectations for the future artistic culture that will exist beyond the steps we’ve taken over these last thirty years. | |
