As someone who was raised by my parents to be reverent, I have always felt a longing for the foolish and vulgar. There are many such things that surround me in daily life and give me inspiration. As such, creating artworks is, for me, not a special act but more akin to a diary.
The overarching theme of my life has been antinomy and the belief that the world contains more than that which is right or beautiful. All circumstances and human beings are multifaceted, and all of us will alternate at points between the majority and the minority.
Furthermore, I see nothing wrong with such imperfection. Living things are most charming to me in their natural form. My sculptures are thus a reminder to observe with generosity and humor the weaknesses and contradictions that we all possess. ——— Kumiko Negami
