In the depths of the human mind lie sadness, loneliness, despair, hope, joy, happiness, conflict, and a sense of emptiness.
It is the deeper spaces of unstable and ambiguous feelings in the back of our minds that cannot be processed with words that I explore with my art. By employing the figures of children and animals, I attempt to draw a “bright darkness” that gives expression to those inexplicable feelings. I try hopefully to lighten the darkness through expressions that are sometimes lonely, sometimes quiet, sometimes in black humor but always invested in the story. － machumaYu
