After last year’s exhibition FACE and his receipt of the Idemitsu Art Award, Yusuke Ishigami has been the subject of increased acclaim. His works present scenes that seem to evoke recollections and feelings drawn from personal experience, giving viewers the mysterious sensation that they are looking into someone’s memory from the outside.
Come and immerse yourself in this unique universe that exists somewhere between reality and illusion.

I always loved the lakeside at night: the smell of moist grass, the crying of various lifeforms emerging from directions unknown, the faint glimmer of starlight as it mixed with the illumination from town…

With my newly obtained driver’s license in hand, I visited there constantly as night fell, almost as if it were calling me. As time passed, it occurred to me that my friends, teachers, and students had all disappeared—into the sea, into rivers, into lakes. I began standing ever closer to the edge of the water.

Amid the sounds of ripples lapping against the shore, I heard a familiar voice. A figure seemed to emerge from the shadows cast by the gently swaying trees. Even now, some part of me continues to answer the call and follows those darkened nighttime roads.
